Wie bereits in den letzten Jahren war ich am vergangenen Wochenende wieder auf der unKonf. Die unKonf ist die Unconference hauptsächlich für Software-Entwickler und wird von der Mannheimer bitExpert AG ausgerichtet.
Die unKonf 2018 war aus meiner Sicht nahezu perfekt organisiert, von der Parkplatzeinweisung über die Sessionplanung bis zur "Afterhour". Außerdem ist sie mittlerweile tatsächlich sowas wie ein "Klassentreffen" für Entwickler aus der Region (von Frankfurt im Norden bis Karlsruhe im Süden). So ist auch der Austausch zwischen den Sessions, während der Mittags- oder Kaffeepause für mich fast wichtiger als die Talk-Inhalte selbst. Die waren aber auch durchweg gut.

At the end of September I travelled to Dresden for the PHP Developer Days 2018. The conference, organized by the Dresden PHP User Group, took place for the fourth time, but for the first time on two days: a workshop day and a conference day. On the day of the conference I was at the International Congress Center, but had already arrived the evening before to stroll through the Neustadt district of Dresden.

I had visited the Saxon state capital only once a few years ago and touched the old town and the new town a little bit. This time I was only in the Neustadt, but a little longer. I ate delicious Czech "Knödel" with goulash and enjoyed some delicious beers in the Hopfenkult craft beer store and in the Zapfanstalt before returning to the hotel in the evening.

Auch in diesem Jahr bin ich am Samstag wieder früh aufgestanden, habe mich ins Auto gesetzt, den Unbillen der A3 zwischen Wiesbaden und Siegburg getrotzt, und habe schließlich an der diesjährigen FrOSCon teilgenommen.
In all den Jahren seit meiner ersten FrOSCon 2010 habe ich viele Menschen aus der Open Source- und insbesondere PHP-Community kennengelernt, die ich IRL oft nur einmal im Jahr treffe: eben auf der FrOSCon. Das ist immer wieder schön, und auch diesmal waren viele alte und ein paar neue Bekannte vor Ort. Manchmal reicht es nur kurz zum "Hallo"-Sagen zwischen zwei Talks, manchmal bleibt etwas mehr Zeit, um sich zu unterhalten. In diesem Jahr habe ich es ganz gut getroffen und ein paar nette Begegnungen gehabt.

I suppose this post has to be in English because the PHP Benelux Conference 2013 was an international conference with participants from 17 countries. It took place in Edegem near Antwerp last weekend. Friday and Saturday that is.
Day 1
After four hours on the road, I arrived at the venue on Friday shortly after noon. The keynote by The Grumpy Programmer Chris Hartjes was scheduled for 13:20 so I had enough time to register and chat to some people. Most of them were from Belgium and the Netherlands, but I also met some German and Swiss guys there. The keynote was fun and addressed some important issues concerning software quality and security.
Next up was Igor Wieder's session on Silex Anatomy and Symfony Components, and it was a solid session although the focus was not on Silex so much, but on his microframework YOLO. Like Silex, it's based on the Symfony Components, but does some things differently.
I then skipped the next session slot and checked in at my hotel. Fortunately, I made it back in time for Kris Buytaert's session 7 tools for your DevOps stack. I really think DevOps is a great movement and would love to use more tools like those he talked about. But there's definitely a learning curve ...
Sadly, I missed the so-called "Social", the social event that evening, because I felt tired and slightly ill, so I preferred to go to bed early and collect my strength for ...
